Cupertino based Apple Inc seems to be in trouble with Australian Government over the 4G claims on their new iPad, whilst the iPad comes with a 4G connection, at the moment this only works in the US and it is not compatible with Australia’s 4G network which runs on the 1800 Mhz frequency.
The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) said it would be seeking orders against Apple in the Federal Court on Wednesday over its local “iPad with WiFi + 4G” promotion, which it claims is false advertising as the new gadget works on a different 4G frequency to that available in the country.
“The ACCC alleges that Apple’s recent promotion of the ‘new iPad with WiFi + 4G’ is misleading because it represents to Australian consumers that the product ‘iPad with WiFi + 4G’ can, with a SIM card, connect to a 4G mobile data network in Australia, when this is not the case,” the statement reads. Precisely how much those reparations might cost Apple remains to be seen: currently all cellularly-equipped versions of the new iPad are branded “4G” and the term features heavily in the company’s advertising.
