During a conference at the Seoul Digital Forum in South Korea this week, Microsoft Chief Executive Steve  revealed  that 500 million Windows 8 users will be using a device running the coming operating system by the end of 2013.  If Ballmer’s prediction is to be believed, Windows 8 would have to gather a huge number of users in a bit more than a year. Windows 8 is expected to launch in October.

Ballmer had earlier mentioned that he expected Microsoft to ship 350 million copies in calendar year 2012. It’s been said that Windows 8 software aim to be one of the big players in the mobile software space, which is now primarily dominated by Apple’s iOS and Google’s Android software. Ballmer also said that the Microsoft is gearing up to introduce a new version of Skype powered by Windows 8. Are you looking forward to the launch of Windows 8? Do you think it could be the next big software platform? Sound off in the comments below.
