Hundreds of people waited at London’s Game store on Oxford Street, including Ami Ledger the developer of the launch title Wipeout 2048.The first person to buy the console was 21 year old Zohaib Ali. Sony’s vision is that the new PlayStation Vita portable gaming device, which officially went on sale 22nd February, will encourage users to start playing more games on dedicated devices over the recently popular Internet and mobile phones. The Vita is selling from £230 and features a touch screen that is very comparable that that found in an advanced smart phone. In addition, the product features a unique back panel that is sensitive to touch and allows users to use all of their fingers at once to play games.

Despite Vita’s advanced graphics and other new technology, Sony is using a strategy that consists of high prices for the console and the games which has been looked down upon by many analysts. The analysts blame a quick growing market for “casual games” where users can play free games that are generally supported by advertising. The Vita has other useful features that include access to the Internet and social networks like Facebook, while including the option for users to add new web features to their games. In fact, prior to the Vita’s release it was largely praised positively through reviews for its extraordinary technical features.
