| Now the UK’s number one choice for TV, broadband and home phone, Sky are set to extend their broadband network, offer free WiFi for all and have launched their own fibre optic broadband deals too.Customers looking for faster broadband speeds can now switch to Sky Fibre Unlimited broadband. Sky’s new fibre broadband package is available at a very competitive monthly rate, and has no monthly usage caps. As of the UK launch in April, 30% of UK homes will be able to access the product, with Sky planning to roll out more fibrecableand extend the network in line with BT. Fibre optic broadband is the future of broadband connection, offering far superior speeds than the 24 Mbps that standard ASDL broadband is limited to. It works by transmitting information via pulses of light through glass fibre cables, rather than standard broadband’s copper wiring. This means that there’s less interference, and the fibre optic cable can retain signal strength over much larger distances too. You can read more about the future of fibre optic broadband and how it works over at the SimplifyDigitalsite. As well as faster broadband offerings, Sky plan to extend their regular broadband coverage to 88% of the UK by 2013. The extension of the network footprint means 1 million more homes in the UK will be able to benefit from Sky’s broadband deals, unlimited monthly usage, and uncapped speeds. And for customers on the go, Sky have launchedtheir own public WiFi service, in conjunction with leading European WiFi hotspot provider, The Cloud. The service means that Sky customers will be able to access to over 10,000 WiFi hotspots across the country, from public shopping malls and hotels, to popular chains like Wagamama, Pizza Express and Caffe Nero.
Sky’s extension of their broadband products will come as welcome news to UK consumers looking to benefit from their popular broadband services. Now the UK’s leading TV, Broadband and Home Phone provider, Sky supplies more than 3.2 million homes with all three services and 3.9 million homes with Sky broadband deals. One of the reasons for the brand’s popularity, is that with its all-fibre core network, it’s currently the only ISP in the country guaranteed not to manage speeds, so users never suffer speed caps, no matter how much they download or what time of day they’re online. |
