An International Trade Commission judge has ruled that Micosoft’s gaming console Xbox 360 should face an import ban in the United States. Fortunately Xbox 360 will not be banned in the US just yet, the ITC ruling now has to go before a panel of six judges, and depending on the outcome it could spell trouble for Microsoft. It’s been said that Microsoft has infringed several of Motorola’s patent relating to H.264 and the use of wireless tech in controllers.
The Trade Commission has until August 23rd to to decide whether or not to follow the ruling. If the judge chooses that the console should face an import and sales ban, the decision would go to the Obama government for a 60-day review. If the Administration signs off on the decision, then a ban would come into effect. The ban on US could also mean a reduction in prices across other world markets, including the UK. A loss for the US consumers could turn out to be a profitable deal for the UK Xbox aficionados. What do you think? Let us know in the comments below.
