Facebook Hacker Sentenced To 8 Months In Prison

British born Glenn Mangham, 26, has been sentenced eight months in prison for hacking into Facebook servers several times last year. Glenn Mangham admitted infiltrating Facebook from his bedroom at his house. The ruling underlines an incredible conclusion to a costly joint investigation by Facebook, the FBI, and Scotland Yard. Social Media giants Facebook spent nearly $200,000 dealing with Mangham’s crime.

During April and May of 2011 Glenn Mangham frequently  hacked into a number of Facebook servers. Mangham was taken into custody in June 2011 and officially charged in August with five counts of computer hacking. Mangham later accepted his wrongdoing but stated his actions were planned to help Facebook improve security.

“We applaud the efforts of the Metropolitan Police and the Crown Prosecution Service in this case, which did not involve any compromise of personal user data,” a Facebook spokesperson said. “We take any attempt to gain unauthorized access to our network very seriously, and we work closely with law enforcement authorities to ensure that offenders are brought to justice.”
