
Cupertino based Apple Inc has published its 2012 Supplier Responsibility Report underling its efforts to audit to improve working condition of its suppliers workers. Cupertino CA based Apple Inc also posted the names of 156 companies that supply component to Apple.”Apple’s Supplier Responsibility team conducted a total of 229 audits—an 80 percent increase over 2010. More than 100 of these were at factories that we had not audited before. Facilities where we conduct repeat audits consistently show fewer violations, and the vast majority improve their audit scores year-over-year”Apple Said.
Apple has revealed in over 200 audits Apple has discovered violation in Apple suppliers these includes underage labor; long working hours; unfair compensation; unsafe working conditions; and practices that cause harm to the environment. Apple has told its suppliers to prevent underage workers, secondly Apple has told its suppliers to support the young people return to school to improve management systems to add age-verification procedures.
Furthermore Apple has discovered 93 factories had 50% workers exceeded working hours of 60 hours per week. Apple has informed its required suppliers to change the working shift hours and also hired a consultant to help factories avoid long work hours. Apple found 42 facilities that wages were delayed, 68 facilities did not provide proper benefits, and 67 facilities held back payments as punishment.
